No Matter Where I End Up I Am Home is an exploration of how it feels to always be searching for a sense of belonging. How whenever I find it, it tends to fade out. Each cluster of photos is meant to represent a different feeling. A different point in time, a different season of life. The distance between the groups of photos is there to convey the sense of fleeting comfort and the distance between myself and so many of my loved ones. Friends in different states, family members in different countries. I can find connection anywhere I go, but somehow always still feel disconnected. I have so many places I could travel to but I would so much rather not have to. There is a hint of a person in each group, some more obvious than others. Everyone included is either someone I miss, or someone who has stayed close by and revives this lack of connection. You’ll notice that some photos repeat themselves, in a different size and different level of focus. This is to remind you of something you’ve already seen, but encounter it in a different way - similar to the way we experience memories.
There’s always the notion that things will end too soon. Time pushes you forwards whether you are ready or not. It should be comforting, knowing things are always moving. But it isn’t - not always. There’s the feeling of being afraid to lose, being afraid that whatever you have won’t last. Sometimes you look back a few years and realize everything you had then is different, therefore gone. You don’t always realize it’s gone, so you don’t always realize it’s still here. You can miss something you still have. You can’t always trust your memory. All things come in different forms, if you’ve noticed. All things happen the way they should. All things that are yours will move on with you. We move together, even if we move alone.
Thank you for being here.
2017-2018.
Collection of work from my senior BFA exhibition.
The Week The Lilacs Bloomed is a study of emotional liminality, ambiguity, and the perception of memory. Lines blurred between what is still here and what is gone, a sense of nostalgia for the present. A visual meditation of uncertain feelings and lack of clarity caused by personal growth and the passage of time.
2016.
Digital photo series focusing on color and shape, and finding little moments of sweetness in everyday life.
2018-2019.
35mm film.
I had my heart broken a lot the summer before this. These photos are from the following year in which I learned to be kinder to myself, forgive those heartbreaks, and see them as moments of growth.

A pack of polaroids, double exposed. Overlaid on digital images from a 2016 visit to my family in England. Capturing the feeling of having homes away from homes away from homes, and how hard it is to describe that.
